Seattle Mariners Send One of Team's Best ST Stories Down to Minor League Camp

He had become one of the best stories because this is his second go-round with the organization that drafted him. Stoudt was drafted by Seattle in 2019 and then traded in 2022 to the Cincinnati Reds in the Luis Castillo trade. The M's claimed him off waivers this spring.

Though he won't make the Opening Day roster, manager Scott Servais recently said that he believes Stoudt will help the big league club at some point this season. He was clocked as high as 97 MPH this spring and would figure to be the team's No. 7 starter at this point (Castillo, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, Bryce Miller, Bryan Woo, Emerson Hancock). If there is an injury or innings limitations on one of the young starters, Stoudt would seem likely to be someone the team could ask to step in.

Stoudt finishes his major league portion of spring training with a 6.00 ERA in two appearances. He allowed two earned runs in three innings while striking out two.

The Mariners finished 88-74 last season and missed the playoffs by 1.0 game. They finished third in the deeply-talented American League West and will be seeking a return to the postseason for the first time since 2022.

The M's open the season on March 28 at home against the Boston Red Sox.
