Report: Red Sox, Cubs among teams interested in Mets 1B Dominic Smith

The New York Mets are reportedly shopping first baseman Dominic Smith.

According to Fansided.com's Robert Murray , the Mets have had trade discussions about Smith with several teams, including the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs.

Smith is batting .194/.276/.284 with 17 RBI in 58 games this season for New York.

After a sluggish start to the year, the Mets demoted Smith to Triple-A Syracuse in late May. Since being recalled on June 21, Smith has posted ten hits and three RBI over 51 plate appearances.

Battling injuries throughout his career, Smith has struggled to live up to expectations in six seasons with the Mets. Since making his major league debut in 2017, Smith has played 447 games for the Mets, batting .246/.308/.424 with 46 home runs and 179 RBI.

The 27-year-old is currently on the 10-day injured list with an ankle sprain.

With Smith on the trade block, the Mets are reportedly in the market for another first baseman.

On Wednesday, a report from Metsmerized's Michael Mayer stated the Mets and Milwaukee Brewers have had discussions surrounding 1B/DH Daniel Vogelbach.
