Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story hits three homers vs. Mariners

The Boston Red Sox spent big to add second baseman Trevor Story in the offseason, signing him to a six-year, $140 million contract. While he struggled through his first month with the team, Story looked like the player the Red Sox hoped for when he hit three home runs in a 12-6 win against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.

Story, 29, began his night with a two-run shot to center field in the second inning.

One inning later, Story hit another two-run homer with a 403-foot blast over the Green Monster in left field. He then singled in the sixth and walked in the seventh before sending another ball over the Monster with a three-run shot in the eighth inning.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Story is the third player in MLB history to record at least three home runs, five runs, and a stolen base in a game.

In his first 25 games with the Red Sox, Story batted .204 and had zero home runs. In his last eight games, Story is batting .321 with five home runs and 11 RBI.

Story's turnaround has helped Boston to win five of its last seven to improve to 16-22 on the year.
