The Boston Red Sox got bad news this morning regarding COVID-19.
Catcher Kevin Plawecki and two unidentified staffers tested positive for the virus ahead of today’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
In response to Plawecki going down, the Red Sox have recalled top catching prospect Connor Wong from Triple-A Worcester.
After yesterday’s win, the Red Sox have a record of 5-4 and sit just a half-game behind the first-place Toronto Blue Jays.
But the team is already dealing with more COVID issues, and this is a team that was hit hard by COVID last season, even with the vast majority of their roster being fully vaccinated against the disease.

Sox Hit With More COVID Issues
This is tough news for the Red Sox.
The last thing they needed was more COVID issues after so many in 2021.
Still, the Red Sox managed to reach the ALCS in spite of all of their issues with COVID.
It’s still early in the year, but issues with COVID are never easy to deal with.
On a more positive note, this gives the Red Sox to see a little more out of Wong, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers along with Alex Verdugo in the Mookie Betts trade.
Wong got a taste of the big leagues last season, though he only saw action in six games.
In those six games, Wong posted a .308 batting average with four hits in 13 at-bats.
He has yet to hit his first career home run but does have an RBI in his young career.
The length of time they are without Plawecki will determine how much they will see out of Wong.
This team is obviously no stranger to COVID problems, so we’ll see how they respond to it.
