Randal Grichuk expected to miss Cactus League games due to injury
Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

Randal Grichuk, who signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks a few days ago, will not play right away in Cactus League games as he is currently recovering from an injury.

While he is reportedly not expected to miss any regular season games because of it, Grichuk had bone spurs removed from his right ankle in January, per MLB insider Steve Gilbert.

Should Grichuk require additional time to recuperate, it is anticipated to only be a brief absence from regular season play. The Diamondbacks secured Grichuk on a remarkably economical 1-year, $2 million contract.

Perhaps his current injury is what allowed the D-backs to acquire Grichuk at such a steal of a price. Last season, the 32-year-old was on a $3.8 million contract with the Colorado Rockies.

With the Rockies, for the first half of 2023, Grichuk posted an impressive .308 batting average and hit 8 home runs in 64 games. He was then sent over to the Los Angeles Angels to finish off the season.

The Diamondbacks will mark Grichuk’s fifth different team that he has played with throughout his 11-season MLB career.

Spring training will begin for the D-backs on February 23rd, with them taking on the Colorado Rockies at 1:10 PM.
