Pittsburgh Pirates Come to Terms with Lefty Reliever For 2024

The 29-year-old went 4-0 for the Bucs this past season. He appeared in 38 games and pitched to a 2.45 ERA. He struck out 33 batters in 40.1 innings.

He began his career in 2018 with the Toronto Blue Jays and stayed there until 2022, when he was picked up by the Seattle Mariners, helping them reach the playoffs.

Lifetime, he's 14-9 with a 4.06 ERA. He has served as a reliever nearly exclusively in his career, except when he started 17 games in his rookie season. 

Though he was always going to be on the roster in 2024, it's good to see the two sides come to a deal amicably. Going to arbitration is never really a good thing for team and player relations. 

The Pirates are clearly hoping that Borucki can replicate his success in 2024 and perhaps become an even bigger part of the team's bullpen. He'll likely serve as a set-up man to elite closer David Bednar.

Pittsburgh finished fourth in the National League Central, ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals and behind the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds.

They have a young roster with exciting pieces like Oneil Cruz and will look to make a further jump next season.

Pittsburgh last made the playoffs in the 2015 campaign.
