After a standard minor league off day on Monday, all four off the Pittsburgh Pirates’ affiliates returned to game-action on Tuesday.
The Altoona Curve picked up their first win of the season after dropping their first three games to begin the year while High-A Greensboro was also victorious.
Here are the Pirates’ prospects who stood out on Tuesday night.
Indianapolis (5-5)
RHP Osvaldo Bido
1B Malcom Nuñez
The Indians fell 10-6 in 12 innings to the St. Paul Saints, snapping their five-games winning streak. On the bright side, Bido again looked good in his second start of the season.
While to this point, Nuñez hasn’t shown his normal power, he collected two more hits and scored a pair of runs in the loss.
Altoona (1-3)
RF Matt Fraizer
2B Domingo Leyba
Fraizer and Leyba willed the Curve to an 8-1 victory over the Erie Seawolves. In addition to them, Jacob Gonzalez hit his first homer of the season, his being a three-run shot.
Right-hander Aaron Shortridge tossed five innings of one-run ball. He only allowed three hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out six.
Greensboro (3-1)
SS Tsung-Che Cheng
RF Jase Bowen
In addition the Cheng and Bowen, Abrahan Gutierrez and Sammy Siani each had multi-hit games en route to the Grasshoppers’ 13-9 shootout win over the Jersey Shore Blue Claws.
Greensboro combined to reach base 26 times — 12 hits, 11 walks, three hit by pitches.
Bradenton (1-3)
2B Jesus Castillo
3B Jack Brannigan
The Marauders were defeated 7-4 by the Lakeland Leaping Frogs, but Castillo and Brannigan each had a pair of hits while the latter stole home.
Designated hitter Nick Cimillo was the only Marauders’ player with an RBI.
