Phillies SP who threw no-hitter left off wild-card roster

The Philadelphia Phillies announced their National League wild-card playoff series roster on Tuesday morning.

Starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen didn't make the cut.

The 31-year-old had served as a two-play player until 2021 and was terrific through early August this season. Lorenzen made his first All-Star team in July and was traded to the Phillies on Aug. 1, hours before the deadline.

He was dominant over his first two starts with Philadelphia and fired a no-hitter in just his second outing with the club. After allowing just two runs on six hits over his first two starts with his new team, Lorenzen faltered down the stretch and was eventually moved to the bullpen.

The former Cincinnati Reds first-round draft pick finished the 2023 campaign 9-9 with a 4.18 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 111 strikeouts over 153 innings pitched covering 29 games (25 starts) with the Phillies and Detroit Tigers.

As noted by NBC Sports Philadelphia's Corey Seidman, while Lorenzen was left off the wild-card roster, a pair of players who weren't even in the major leagues two weeks ago will be in uniform.

Rookies Orion Kerkering and corner infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson are the two youngsters who made the active roster.

The best-of-three set against the Miami Marlins begins at 8:08 p.m. ET on Tuesday in Philadelphia. Zack Wheeler will toe the rubber for the Phillies, while lefty Jesus Luzardo gets the start for the Marlins.
