Phillies Reunite With Former Player in Front Office
Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Phillies have had a pretty quiet offseason aside from signing Aaron Nola, but they did make some news on Tuesday.

The Phillies are bringing back former utilityman Phil Gosselin in a front office role. He will serve as a Special Assignment Analyst on the team's Baseball Development staff, according to team insider Luke Arcaini.

That title sounds extremely vague, so it's not clear what Gosselin's new job responsibilities are. However, it never hurts to have a former player around, especially a relatively young one familiar with the modern game.

Philadelphia fans probably don't remember Gosselin very well, as he only played 83 games for them in 2019 and 2020 combined. He didn't make much of an impact, slashing .255/.312/.363 with more strikeouts (43) than hits (40) during his time with the Phillies.

While he was never the most gifted player on the diamond, he worked hard to maximize the talent he did have. He managed to cobble together a 10-year MLB career with seven different teams, lasting longer than many players with more natural talent.

Gosselin retired after the 2022 season and is only 35, so he brings plenty of positive attributes to the table. He's young, energetic and will bring a fresh perspective to his first baseball ops job.

He also spent a good amount of time in the Atlanta Braves organization in the minors and majors, so he learned from some of the best teachers in the game.

Gosselin's playing days may be over, but his new career is just getting started.
