Phillies Make Coaching Change as Offseason Begins
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Phillies are in offseason mode as the winter is fully underway.

Amid all the free agent and trade rumors about what they could do to improve the roster ahead of the 2024 MLB season, they did make on tangible trade.

According to the team, on Friday Cesar Ramos was named the new bullpen coach after having spent the last two seasons with Triple-A Lehigh Valley as the pitching coach.

It's a minor move, but one that was necessary after Dave Lundquist was relieved of his duties later last month.

Ramos spent eight years in the Majors as a reliever and even signed a deal with Philadelphia back in 2017.

The bullpen coach is not an insignificant member of the coaching staff as they ensure the readiness of each relief pitcher in preparation for their turn on the mound. Ramos will also act as the assistant pitching coach to Caleb Cotham.

As it stands, the Phillies have one more staff move to make as they will need to fill the role of assistant hitting coach. Philadelphia opted not to bring back Jason Camilli at the same time as Lundquist.

It's likely that Kevin Long will be able to have some type of say into who is number two will be heading into the season.
