Phillies' Bryce Harper out vs. Mets; Didi Gregorius on COVID-19 list

Philadelphia Phillies star slugger Bryce Harper provided a positive update  for fans via social media after he took a 97-mph fastball to the face during Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals but isn't quite ready to return to action for Friday's series opener against the division-rival New York Mets

"It’s not so much about his face; it’s more about his wrist when the ball bounced off his face and ricocheted," bench coach Rob Thomson told reporters, per NBC Sports Philadelphia. "He’s still a little bit sore. He’s going outside to shag [fly balls]. He probably won’t hit today. He won’t be available. It’s more precaution than anything."

Additionally, the Phillies confirmed that shortstop Didi Gregorius has been placed on the COVID-19 injured list. It's unclear if Gregorius tested positive for the coronavirus, is showing any symptoms or was deemed a high-risk close contact. Players can also be added to the list if it's believed they violated any health and safety protocols.

Players or coaches who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate away from team activities for a minimum of 10 days.

In a corresponding roster move, Philadelphia recalled catcher Rafael Marchan from its alternate training site.

The Phillies and Atlanta Braves will begin Friday's action tied atop the National League East standings at 12-13.
