Pete Rose set to make ironic history at opening of Ohio casino
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Most people with passing knowledge of baseball understand the trouble that Cincinnati Reds legend Pete Rose got himself into after his playing days were over.

It doesn’t require much of an explanation, but Rose, the all-time MLB hits leader, is banned from baseball for illegally wagering on games as both a player and manager.

But in an ironic twist, Rose is going to do something that he hasn’t ever done.

On New Year’s Day next year, Rose is going to place the first legal sports bet at Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati.

Pete Rose Bets Again

Rose has somewhat faded into obscurity ever since he was banned from baseball.

There have been several attempts for him to clear his name and find his way into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

But for him to actually place a legal sports bet in Ohio is unheard of.

People are so used to hearing about him and his tendency to illegally bet on sports, so this is a first for many, including Rose himself.

But it appears that on Jan. 1, 2023, Rose is going to be placing a legal sports bet in Ohio.

The 81-year-old Rose was a 17-time All-Star, a Rookie of the Year, an MVP, a Silver Slugger, a two-time Gold Glove Award Winner, and a three-time Batting Champion during his controversial career.

He hit a total of 160 career home runs and had a lifetime batting average of .303.

He also finished with a career WAR of 79.6.
