Padres utility man Brandon Dixon has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball.
Dixon, 32, took to Instagram on Thursday to make the announcement. Here was his full caption and post:
"Officially retired from baseball. I’m so thankful for all the relationships, support, and experiences over the past 10 years. It’s been a fun journey to go from a kid dreaming of playing in the big leagues to getting to play for my hometown team the past couple of years. Thank you to everyone who was part of it."
Dixon was drafted in the third round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 2015, and ended up making his debut with the Reds in 2018.
In 2019 and 2020, Dixon was with the Detroit Tigers, and in 2021, he spent a year in Japan with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball.
In 2022, Dixon got an opportunity with the Padres on a minor league contract. He dominated in the minors in 2022, leading the minor leagues with an incredible slugging percentage of .823.
Across 2022 and 2023, Dixon appeared in 38 games with the Padres' MLB squad, slashing .204/.240/.323 with two home runs and 10 runs batted in.
Across 234 career big league games, Dixon hit .224 with 22 home runs and 74 runs batted in.
