Orioles' Anthony Santander out two to four weeks with ankle sprain

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander suffered a freak left ankle injury returning to first base on an attempted pickoff play in the first inning of Tuesday's 7-5 win at the Miami Marlins:

While Santander could not put any weight on the foot shortly after the incident, manager Brandon Hyde confirmed ahead of Wednesday's matchup in Miami that the 26-year-old is dealing with only a sprain and will be sidelined for two to four weeks.

"Very positive news,” Hyde said of learning that X-rays on Santander's ankle were negative, per Joe Trezza of the league's website. "Really pleased with the results we got this morning, because when I went out there I was expecting the worst."

Santander went on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday and hadn't yet spoken with reporters about the injury as Baltimore faced Miami in an afternoon contest.

In a corresponding roster move, the Orioles recalled outfielder Ryan McKenna from their alternate training site.

Across 16 games this month, Santander hit .196 with two home runs and eight RBIs before the injury.
