More Speculation Cubs Will Sign a Boras Client
Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

It's been well-documented that the Chicago Cubs and superagent Scott Boras haven't dealt with each other in a way that would garner confidence something between the franchise and his clients will get done this offseason.

Perhaps their relationship is what's holding up the seemingly apparent reunion with Cody Bellinger.

That might explain why the Cubs aren't interested in paying the asking price Boras and the slugger are looking to receive.

So, it continues to be the saga that never ends.

Jeff Passan of ESPN was asked about the situation between Chicago and Bellinger, but he gave an interesting response that created some speculation there is still another major move out there for the front office that might not involve the former MVP.

"I do think the Cubs are gonna sign one of the four Boras guys," he said during an appearance on ESPN 1000 with Waddle & Silvy.

Besides Bellinger, the three other high-profile clients of Boras that Passan mentioned are Matt Chapman, Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery.

Chapman has been linked as a target throughout the offseason, and despite nothing getting done and other teams being interested, the Cubs are still monitoring his free agency.

Snell and Montgomery seem like the least likely options out of this group.

The reigning NL Cy Young winner is looking for a massive contract that no team has been willing to meet at the moment. It would be very surprising if Chicago was the team to shell out that type of deal.

Montgomery is coming off a World Series winning run with the Texas Rangers where he had the best year of his career.

His market hasn't matured to the point of getting a huge payday like it was originally expected, and now it seems like the Rangers are not eyeing a reunion anymore according to MLB Trade Rumors.

If his price drops, maybe the Cubs could turn their attention to adding another quality starting pitcher and hope their lineup is good enough to compete.

Either way, it seems like Chicago still has another move to be made before the 2024 season starts.
