MLB Clubs Are Competing For A Truly Honorable Award
Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The Allan H. Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence was created back in 2010 to recognize the charitable contributions of MLB teams.

Each year, five organizations are chosen, and fans vote on the winner.

This year, the five finalists are the Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and Cincinnati Reds.

Each organization has represented their community well and have been heavily involved in charitable work.

On Twitter, MLB posted the list of finalists and the charitable programs that each organization has put in place to help benefit their respective communities.

The Kansas City Royals took home the award last season.

Five Teams Up For Selig Award

The Allan H. Selig Award is named after former MLB commissioner Bud Selig, who served in that role from 1992-2015.

The award is a tremendous honor for whichever team wins it.

After the Royals took home the award in 2021, 2022 represents a new slate of candidates for the prestigious award.

The Diamondbacks Give Back Youth Jersey Program is designed to grow interest in baseball and softball among children.

The program seeks to provide baseball gear for children who live in low-income households.

The Cubs Scholars Program seeks to support the achievements of Chicago students to address a notable barrier for them to attain a post-secondary education.

The White Sox Amateur City Elite program was founded in 2007, with their mission being to reverse the declining interest and participation in baseball among African-American youth.

They also offer mentorship programs that help pull children away from Chicago’s most violent neighborhoods.

The Yankees CUNY Partnership Program seeks to address issues related to equality, racial injustice and inclusivity.

The Reds Community Fund Community Makeover seeks to make impacts on local neighborhoods while strengthening youth baseball and softball programs.

They have also brought together some of Cincinnati’s most prominent institutions.
