Milwaukee Brewers' Outfielder Suffers New Injury While on Rehab Assignment
USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers, chasing a National League Central crown this season, received new injury information on outfielder Jesse Winker on Monday.

Per Brewers reporter Curt Hogg on social media:

Some Brewers injury updates from Pittsburgh: Jesse Winker hurt his right quad on Friday in Nashville.

He’s been moved back to the injured list from a rehab assignment.

Aaron Ashby pitches for Wisconsin this week, then will go to Biloxi the week after.

After being an All-Star in 2021, Winker has been a disappointment each of the last two seasons. He hit just .219 for the Mariners in 2022 with 14 homers and 53 RBI, then was traded to Milwaukee in the offseason and is hitting just .199 this year with one homer and 23 RBI.

It's not clear how this really affects the Brewers moving forward as Winker hasn't produced much anyways this year.

In other news, the rehab plan for Ashby is an encouraging one. The 25-year-old lefty has encouraging traits on the mound, but hasn't experienced much success yet. He's just 5-12 lifetime and carries a 4.47 ERA. He does have elite strikeout stuff, having K'd 165 batters in 139.0 innings.

Milwaukee enters play on Monday at 76-60 and in first place in the National League Central by 3.0 games over the Cubs.

Former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes goes for Milwaukee while Luis L. Ortiz pitches for Pittsburgh.

Burnes is 9-7 with a 3.55 ERA while Ortiz is 3-4 with a 5.08.

Pittsburgh is 63-74 on the year.
