Miami Marlins Make Plan Clear For Eury Perez's Return to Big Leagues

On Sunday, we heard that the Miami Marlins were bringing back young ace Eury Perez from the minor leagues.

The team is trying to strike a delicate balance, being mindful of his innings, but is also trying to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

Now that Perez is back with the big club, he'll pitch on Monday, and the team has set forward an ideal plan for the rest of his season.

The Marlins' plans for Perez the rest of the season would allow him to make up to 10 more starts in the majors, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.

The team is monitoring the 20-year-old's workload carefully, as he's already thrown more innings this season than he did in either 2022 or 2021, but Perez is set to rejoin Miami's rotation Monday after spending about a month in the minors resting and then ramping back up. Whether he actually makes all 10 starts will depend on his performance, as well as whether the Marlins stay in the wild-card hunt..

The 20-year-old has some of the best stuff of any young pitcher in baseball. He's gone 5-3 for Miami this year with a 2.36 ERA through 11 starts and has struck out 61 batters in 53.1 innings, so he'll be a big boost to the Marlins in any capacity, for any length of time.

The Marlins take on the Reds on Monday night in Cincinnati. First pitch is 6:40 p.m. ET as Perez is opposed by rookie Brandon Williamson.
