Miami Marlins Go Viral For Odd Double Play Attempt Against St. Louis Cardinals

One of the primary goals of Spring Training is to get as many mistakes out of your system as possible.

The Miami Marlins committed quite the odd blunder in the field against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, and yet it still didn't come back to bite them.

Miami entered the bottom of the fifth inning up 6-3. A string of hit-by-pitches, walks and wild pitches helped St. Louis tie the game, though, and the Cardinals had a chance to pull ahead with two outs and runners on second and third.

Second baseman José Fermín pulled a grounder to third baseman Jonah Bride, seemingly ending the rally in its tracks. All Bride had to do was make the toss to first for the force out and the Marlins would escape the jam.

Bride had other plans, though, firing the ball to second baseman Jacob Amaya.

Amaya stepped on second, then he relayed it over to first. His throw beat Fermín to the bag, ending the inning.

The Marlins tried to turn a double play when there were already two outs, and they did so by trying to get a force out where one wasn't available. The end result was the unique 5-4-3 groundout that kept the score knotted at six apiece.
