Mets Announcer Reveals The Latest On Jacob deGrom

The New York Mets have made very clear that their top priority this offseason will be retaining staff ace Jacob deGrom.

The 34-year-old returned from a shoulder injury in late July and did not disappoint, going 5-4 with a 3.08 ERA during the regular season.

But with several teams interesting in the veteran right-hander, the Mets are going to be in a tight battle to retain him.

However, Mets announcer and team legend Ron Darling doesn’t think the Mets will have any problem re-signing deGrom, predicting that it will be incredibly difficult to outbid Steve Cohen, the team’s owner and that what spring training rolls around, No. 48 will be back in a Mets jersey.

Darling Predicts A deGrom Reunion

Darling certainly seems confident.

The Texas Rangers are another team that has been in on the two-time Cy Young Award winner and former Rookie of the Year.

Texas will certainly look to bolster its rotation.

But when Cohen is your team’s owner, it’s easy to feel confident that a deal will get done.

deGrom obviously will not come cheap, as he headlines a stacked class of free agent starters along with Carlos Rodon and Justin Verlander, the latter of which the Mets have met with.

However, as Darling alluded to, it’s hard to count Cohen out.

He managed to bring in Max Scherzer on a three-year, $130 million contract last winter, the largest three-year deal in the history of baseball.

The Mets are the likely favorite to sign deGrom.

The Winter Meetings are approaching, and we may soon see deGrom sign his next contract.
