Manny Machado Heads to IL With Hand Injury, Brandon Dixon Replaces
USA TODAY Sports

Another day has passed by and it is also another day that Manny Machado is out of the San Diego Padres' lineup. He continues to battle a hairline fracture in his hand after taking a big hit off of a wild pitch on the Friars' match against the Kansas City Royals earlier this week.

Up until now, it looked like the the 30-year-old has been very against going on the IL. He did not have to do so in 2022 when he went down with a big ankle injury and he didn't want it to be the case this time around.

However, he knows that he cannot afford to play any worse with the Padres already struggling right now and due to him having an actual fracture in his hand, the IL is the smart option for him now.

Machado confirmed that he was okay with the decision and it was confirmed by Bob Melvin.

Manny Machado seems resigned to going on the IL for the first time since 2014. He said he understands the fractured metacarpal needs to heal. “It’s not like the ankle stuff last year,” Machado said.

Machado is indeed going on the IL, Bob Melvin said. He’s the corresponding move for Brandon Dixon, who’s in the lineup.

The Padres have underwent a number of lineup changes since Machado has been out and they've done so once again as they get ready to take on the Boston Red Sox. Fernando Tatis Jr. hasn't been placed in the leadoff spot once again with Ha-Seong Kim being given a chance right behind him.

We have yet to know the estimate as to how long Machado will be on the IL for but we'll be sure to keep you guys updated as we know more.
