Justin Martinez Brings the Heat Against the Rockies
Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

While he did allow a run on three hits and a walk, Justin Martinez made sure to bring the gas against the Colorado Rockies in the Diamondbacks 2nd spring training game.

Martinez’s fastball reached a peak of 101.2 MPH, with five pitches clocked at over 100 MPH.

After getting himself into a bases-loaded, no-out situation, Martinez struck out two batters and forced a groundout to third base to exit the inning with minimal damage.

Martinez, who debuted in the major leagues last summer at the age of 21, encountered difficulties during his initial stint at the top level. Over 10 innings, he surrendered 14 earned runs from 13 hits and 11 walks.

Control issues were also evident during Martinez’s time in Triple-A last season, where he issued 48 walks across 49.1 innings.

If Martinez can enhance his control and command on the mound, the Diamondbacks possess a highly promising arm in their bullpen, capable of making a significant impact down the road.
