Here's How Red Sox Newcomer Lucas Giolito Fared In Spring Training Debut

Lucas Giolito officially made his debut with the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon.

The righty took the mound at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers for the first time in a Red Sox uniform and had a promising outing. The 29-year-old pitched two innings and recorded a strikeout and walk, not allowing any hits or runs.

Giolito's first strikeout for Boston came against Emmanuel Rodriguez of the Minnesota Twins, and it has fans excited for what's to come this year.

Giolito posted a 4.88 ERA with a 204-to-73 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .240 batting average against and 1.31 WHIP in 184 1/3 innings between his time with the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Guardians and Los Angeles Angels last season.

Boston still does not have a great pitching staff, but Gioltio should be a solid part of the rotation this year. He will also be heavily relied on, presuming the Red Sox don't add any more pitching.

Although it was only a spring training outing, it was good to see Giolito finally take the mound for the Red Sox and look sharp.

The veteran has proven to be a frontline starter in the past but lost his way late last season. On Sunday, he looked a lot more like the guy who posted a 3.79 ERA with the White Sox through 21 starts than the guy who posted a 6.96 ERA in his final 12 starts of the season.

Giolito's two innings played a part in the Red Sox eventually beating the Twins 8-6 to lock up their first Grapefruit League victory.
