Giants SP Anthony DeSclafani will have right ankle surgery, miss rest of 2022 season
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani will undergo right ankle surgery later this month, forcing him to miss the rest of the 2022 season.
Only two days after being placed on the 15-day injured list with what the Giants called right ankle inflammation, DeSclafani's season is over.
On Sunday, DeSclafani told the press he was scheduled for surgery on July 12 to repair a peroneal tendon in his right ankle. He's expected to need four to five months of recovery time.

"Anthony worked really hard following last season to come to camp healthy and to be the best version that he could possibly be for the Giants," Giants' manager Gabe Kapler told MLB.com's Maria I. Guardado on Sunday. "I appreciate the work ethic and how much he gave us. We know he's going to give that same level of effort in this rehab process and the optimistic view is he's going to come back as healthy as he's been for the beginning of 2023."
DeSclafani's injury is just another blow to the injured Giants squad.
San Francisco is now without two starters in their rotation as right-hander Jakob Junis was placed on the 15-day IL on June 11 with a left hamstring strain. The Giants expect Junis to be out four to six weeks.
DeSclafani finishes the season with an 0-2 record and a 9.95 ERA in five starts.
