Former Seattle Mariners' OF Discusses Unwanted Comments in 2023 From Team Leadership
USA TODAY Sports

Man, Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto can't stop angering people this week.

Even without saying anything, Dipoto infuriated M's fans on Tuesday, and he did the same thing on Wednesday after comments from former Mariners' outfielder Jarred Kelenic were made available on social media.

Speaking on the "Foul Territory" podcast, Kelenic said that two specific comments from Dipoto in 2023 became big distractions that were unnecessary.

"You're bringing unwanted, unneeded attention to the team"

The "Prime Babe Ruth" comment was made by Dipoto in June to Seattle Sports 710 and was in response to the question about if the M's could bring in anyone to help stop the team's slide in the first half of the season:

"And this is just being honest, we could go out and acquire prime Babe Ruth and it's not going to help us. We're not one player away or one magic spell from fixing this."

The "54 percent" comment was made by Dipoto after the season and has been covered extensively.

None of this is going to make the Mariners fanbase feel good. The group is already upset at the team's lack of spending this offseason, the apparent lack of commitment from ownership and now, the clear frustration from players inside the building.

As for Kelenic, he doesn't have to be subjected to Dipoto anymore. He was traded to the Atlanta Braves earlier in the offseason.
