Former Phillies Pitcher Generating Interest

There was an interesting update on the free agency of one of the Philadelphia Phillies' former pitchers.

After once being a huge star early on in his career, Noah Syndergaard has become a journeyman the last few years, struggling to stay in one place due to poor performances.

The Phillies took a shot on the right-hander in 2022 when they traded away Mickey Moniak and prospect Jadiel Sanchez to the Los Angeles Angels for Syndergaard.

He appeared in 10 games for them, starting nine, and recorded an ERA of 4.12 during the regular season. He was part of their postseason roster and pitched in four games, starting two. The righty had an ERA of 3.33, giving up three runs across 8 1/3 innings pitched.

Philadelphia let him walk in free agency and he signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

They decided to trade him to the Cleveland Guardians after posting an ERA of 7.16 across 12 starts.

The Guardians eventually designated him for assignment before releasing him as his struggles continued.

It was thought the one-time All-Star might be finished playing Major League Baseball, but Jon Heyman of The New York Post reports there were multiple teams at one of his throwing sessions.

"Yankees are among about 15 teams that have gone to watch one of Noah Syndergaard's pen sessions. Their interest level is unknown but he was said to be in the mid 90's," he posted on social media.

The New York Yankees have been searching for arms the entire offseason and could dip into the cheaper-option market to fill this need.

It seems unlikely that a team would use Syndergaard in their rotation after the clear struggles he had last season.

As far as the Phillies go, they weren't explicitly listed as one of the 15 teams who were there to see him throw, but maybe they could have some interest in bringing back their former pitcher to add depth and be another bullpen option.
