Former Padres Pitcher Acquired in Blockbuster Trade Joins NL West Rival on Minor League Deal

Hahn, 34, began his MLB career with the Padres in 2014.

The sixth-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2010 draft was acquired by the Friars ahead of the 2014 season in a seven-player trade.

The Padres acquired Hahn and left-handed pitcher Alex Torres, and sent infielders Logan Forsythe and Maxx Tissenbaum and right-handed pitchers Matt Andriese, Brad Boxberger and Matt Lollis to Tampa. Not exactly a successful trade for San Diego.

Hahn ended up spending just one year with the Padres, going 7-4 with a 3.07 ERA in 14 games and 12 starts.

Then, ahead of the 2015 season, Hahn was shipped with right-handed pitcher R.J. Alvarez to the Oakland Athletics for catcher Derek Norris and right-handed pitcher Seth Streich. A somewhat more successful trade for San Diego.

Hahn spent the next three seasons in Oakland, and then was with the Kansas City Royals from 2019 to 2021. After suffering a season-ending injury in 2021, he hasn't thrown another pitch of professional baseball.

Hahn is now joining the division-rival Dodgers, hoping to revitalize his career. He has a career 4.22 ERA in 82 games and 50 starts. After starting his career as a starter, he's transitioned to being a full-time reliever.
