Former Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds' Flamethrower Signs with San Francisco Giants

The 31-year-old is a seven-year veteran of the Reds and Royals. He is 13-19 lifetime with a 4.95 ERA. He's served primarily as a reliever, only starting 14 games out of 322 appearances. Garrett made a career-high 69 appearances in 2019 and has four different seasons of 60 appearances or more. He also appeared in 21 games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, which was more than 1/3 of the games played that year.

There's no telling at this point if he'll make the Giants but it's a San Francisco team that is looking to improve upon a fourth-place finish in the National League West from a season ago.

In addition to Garrett, the team has added a new manager in Bob Melvin, outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, and pitcher Jordan Hicks. In addition, they've brought in starter Robbie Ray in a trade with the Mariners. He's unavailable until at least midseason after undergoing Tommy John surgery last season.

Pitchers and catchers report this week to Giants camp. The team opens up the regular season on March 28 at the San Diego Padres.
