Ex-Red Sox Hurler Officially Signs With International Club In Attempt To Revive Career

One former member of the Boston Red Sox is on the move. 

Former Red Sox and Detroit Tigers relief pitcher William Cuevas officially signed an international contract with the KT Wiz of the Korea Baseball Organization after being released by the Los Angeles Dodgers. 

Cuevas was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent out of Venezuela in 2008 and worked his way up the Boston farm system. He began his professional career with the Red Sox's Dominican Summer League team in 2009. The righty joined Boston's then Low-A affiliated Lowell Spinners in 2012 and then was promoted to the High-A Salem Red Sox in 2013. Eventually, Cuevas made his MLB debut with Boston during the 2016 season and made three appearances while pitching to a 3.60 ERA. 

He joined the Tigers as a free agent ahead of the 2017 season and then re-joined Boston ahead of the 2018 campaign. During the Red Sox's magical 2018 World Series run, Cuevas made nine appearances out of the bullpen.

The 32-year-old hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2018. Cuevas initially joined the Wiz in 2019 and spent three seasons with the club and pitched to a 3.89 ERA across 82 starts. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023 on a minor league contract and made 11 appearances with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers but was released.

Cuevas now will return to the Wiz and look to help them while attempting to get his career back on track. At just 32 years old, it wouldn't be too surprising if another MLB club were to offer him a minor league contract at some point if he looks solid with the Wiz. Hopefully he can get back on track with the Wiz.
