Cubs reinstate RHP Adbert Alzolay from 60-day IL
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs reinstated right-hander Adbert Alzolay from the 60-day injured list on Saturday.

The club also called up infielder Esteban Quiroz from Triple-A Iowa, placed outfielder Seiya Suzuki on the paternity list and designated two players for assignment: first baseman Frank Schwindel and left-hander Sean Newcomb.

Alzolay, 27, has not pitched in the majors in nearly a full calendar year because of shoulder and lat injuries. His last appearance was on Oct. 1 against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Alzolay went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in four starts this year at Iowa. He was 5-13 with a 4.58 ERA in 30 games (21 starts) with the Cubs last season.

Quiroz, 30, played professionally in Mexico from 2011-17 and has played in the minors since 2018. He batted .212 with three homers and 13 RBIs in 40 games at Iowa this season.

Schwindel, 30, batted .229 with eight homers and 36 RBIs in 75 games with the Cubs this season.

Newcomb, 29, is 2-1 with a 9.13 ERA in 17 games (one start) with Chicago since being acquired in an April 21 trade with the Atlanta Braves.
