Cubs' Albert Almora in touch with family of child who was hit by foul ball
Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

Albert Almora Jr. says that he is in touch with the family of the child who was hit by his foul ball during Wednesday’s Chicago Cubs-Houston Astros game.

During his at-bat in the top of the fourth inning, Almora pulled a foul ball that hit a young girl. He immediately grew emotional and struck out in his at-bat while distraught.

Almora vowed after the game that he would try to form a lifelong relationship with the fan, who was said to be OK.

The Cubs were off on Thursday but began a series in St. Louis on Friday. Almora spoke with reporters before the game and shared that he has been in touch with the family of the child, via the Chicago Sun-Times’ Mark Potash.

Following Thursday's game, Almora said he wants to see MLB add more protective netting around fields. His sentiment was echoed by one of his teammates, as well as other players around the game.
