Cardinals president John Mozeliak gets contract extension

The St. Louis Cardinals signed president of baseball operations John Mozeliak to a contract extension through the 2025 season.

Mozeliak, 54, has helped guide the team to 15 consecutive winning seasons, matching the franchise record from 1939-53.

"I am excited to continue in my current role and understand change will eventually happen," Mozeliak said in a statement. "Over the next few years, we will focus on succession planning throughout baseball operations as well as work tirelessly to put a successful product on the field."

Mozeliak was named general manager in 2008 before being promoted to president in June 2017. He started in the Cardinals' front office following the 1995 season. Mike Girsch is the team's current GM.

Mozeliak has overseen six National League Central champion teams (2009, 2013-15, 2019, 2022), two pennants (2011, 2013) and a World Series title in 2011. The Cardinals have played in 79 postseason games since Mozeliak's first season as GM, second among all NL teams to only the Los Angeles Dodgers (116).

Mozeliak is the longest-tenured head of operations in the NL and second only to the New York Yankees' Brian Cashman in all of Major League Baseball.
