Cardinals' John Mozeliak Hints Bigger Moves Could Be Coming For St. Louis
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals still have plenty of work to do.

St. Louis has gotten an early start in free agency by signing veterans Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson but still needs to add more to the starting rotation. The Cardinals entered the offseason hoping to add three starters and already have added two, but not a top-tier arm. St. Louis has been linked to aces like Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and Sonny Gray but has yet to land someone at that level.

Lynn and Gibson both are positive additions who provide more depth but the Cardinals still need to add at least one top arm. It sounds like the Cardinals are still looking and president of baseball operations John Mozeliak hinted as much, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo.

"This is Nov. 21," Mozeliak said as transcribed by Woo. "There is a lot of time left. We're still going to look at ways to improve our club. In terms of what's next, I think that's more of a wait-and-see. We have not explored the trade market much to date. We'll probably take a deeper dive into that as we start to approach Winter Meetings. But we don't think we're finished at this point."

St. Louis has some potential in 2024 if it can land at least one top starter this offseason. The Cardinals' offense is in a good spot and if the rotation continues to improve, it wouldn't be too surprising to see St. Louis back in the postseason next year. Now the Cardinals just need to continue adding.
