Cardinals Fans Recall A Legendary Game 6 Anniversary

Although the St. Louis Cardinals no longer have a dog in the fight this postseason, today marks a special anniversary in team history.

11 years ago, the Cards found themselves trailing the Texas Rangers 3-2 in the World Series heading into Game 6, which would prove to be a topsy-turvy night for both sides.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, St. Louis found themselves down to their final strike, but hometown hero David Freese kept them alive with a game-tying triple.

One inning later, the Cards were back in familiar territory, down to their last strike, but this time it was Lance Berkman who saved the day, tying the game at 9 with a base hit of his own.

In the 11th, Freese forever etched his name in Cardinals history with a walk-off home run to force Game 7.

This may in fact be the most exciting game in World Series history.

Several Game 6s have ended with walk-off home runs, but no game is remembered with quite the clarity as this one.

The Cardinals had been playing under pressure for a few months, having rallied from 10.5 games back in the Wild Card race.

Once again, they found themselves in need of a comeback, and they still had two up their sleeves.

Down to their last strike twice, the Cardinals pulled off a miracle to set up Game 7, which they would go on to win by a final of 6-2 to capture their 11th and most recent World Series title.
