After a promising spring training which had Hunter Brown on track to become the Houston Astros’ fifth starter, he was scratched on Wednesday with lower back tightness.
Brown was replaced with right-hander Jairo Solis.
In Brown’s last two starts, he allowed one run with seven strikeouts.
This was supposed to be Brown’s final start of the spring to prepare him for the regular season.
With Lance McCullers Jr. sidelined with a strained right forearm, Brown seemed primed to step in.
Now we’ll have to wait and see how his back responds.
After a September callup in 2022, Brown produced a 0.89 ERA in 20 1/3 innings and continued with three scoreless appearances during the postseason on their way to a World Series title.
Stay tuned for further updates.
