On Friday night the Milwaukee Brewers had a bad night as they lost 15-1 to the San Francisco Giants and also saw their star shortstop Willy Adames get hit in the head by a foul ball as he was leaning on the dugout railing during the second inning.

Brewers third baseman and outfielder Brian Anderson was up to bat when a 90 MPH laser struck Willy Adames on the left side of the head.  Willy Adames immediately moved further into the dugout, sat down while medical officials attended to him, and eventually walked into the tunnel that led into the clubhouse.  It was a tense moment in the ballpark, Brian Anderson finished his at-bat with tears in his eyes, and the game escaped Milwaukee as they had to finish without knowing the status of their friend and clubhouse leader.

Following the incident Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames was hospitalized overnight for continued observation.

At this time it is believed that Willy Adames did not sustain any fractures and will be released on Saturday morning if all goes well.  Following the game manager Craig Counsell indicated that he will be placed on the injured list.  He also said it was a very scary moment.

“I heard it and I knew it hit somebody.  I didn’t know who it hit but I knew it hit somebody. Willy didn’t really react that much initially, to be honest with you. He just went and sat down. Then you realized what happened, and then it was really scary.”

“You feel awful. It’s just an accident. It’s a bad accident. It’s bad luck. Unfortunately, it’s one of your teammates. Some bad things happen in the game sometimes. It was not fun to be a part of.”

“It affected everybody for sure.  Certainly Freddy, as the guy having to go out there and pitch, and as close as they are, as much as anybody.”
