The trade deadline for Major League Baseball is quickly approaching. There has already been one major trade, with the New York Yankees acquiring Andrew Benintendi from the Kansas City Royals for prospects. However, there are still several big names swirling around the rumor mill, namely Josh Bell and Juan Soto of the Washington Nationals. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Curt Hogg recently interviewed David Stearns, asking about what the Brewers may (or may not) do at the trade deadline.

What David Stearns Had to Say about What the Brewers May Do

In his interview with Hogg, Stearns explained that the Brewers feel like they are finally getting their players to hit more consistently. According to Stearns, he does not see an immediate need for the Brewers on the trade market, at least for a position player.

“I think we have 12 players who are maybe a tick off, pretty close to finding that upside and we’ve got some time to allow them to do that. In terms of what we could potentially do at the deadline, you’re right, we’re fairly balanced position player group. There’s no real need out there. And so if we’re going to do something that impacts our position player group, it may require some level of creativity or some complementary piece. Or we may decide decide that ultimately what he have right now is better than what he can get elsewhere, in which case we’re very comfortable.”

Regardless of how Brewers fans may feel about the team having a need or not, one has to admire how close of tabs Stearns keeps on how the team is performing. He specifically used the No. 12 to reference how many players he feels are close to reaching their potential.

David Stearns Checks In on EVERY Player on the Trade Market

Just because the Brewers are comfortable does not mean that the team is not doing their due diligence. In an interview with MLB Network on Monday, Stearns talked about his approach to the trade deadline.

If the Brewers do not make a trade at the deadline, it won’t be because they didn’t look into every possible trade.
