Brewers GM provides update on Jesse Winker

In December, the Brewers completed a trade with the Mariners in order to acquire Jesse Winker and Abraham Toro. Kolten Wong was the player given up in exchange. Following the deal, Winker indicated that he had left knee and neck surgery after the conclusion of the 2022 season. On Wednesday, the Brewers provided an update on his recovery.

Brewers GM Matt Arnold provided the update at a team fan event. He indicated that Winker is training at the Brewers facility and is “doing awesome.”

Nagging injuries may have contributed to Winker’s down 2022 season. This led to him having a few medical issues addressed that involved having surgery on his meniscus and a cervical disc replacement. Winker indicated in December that his originally scheduled timeline to begin baseball activities was January.

So far, all things seem to be pointing in an upward trajectory in regard to Winker’s recovery from two surgeries. If Winker can return to form, he could be a big offensive producer for the Brewers in 2023. He will also be a free agent at season's end, so he will be playing for a big contract next offseason.
