The Milwaukee Brewers streak of sending five players to the annual MLB All-Star Game has come to an end. Since 2018, the Brewers had sent five players to the Midsummer Classic (excluding 2020 when there was no All-Star Game). This year, Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader will represent Milwaukee at the All-Star Game at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.

Burnes, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, is having an even better year in 2022 than he did last season.

  • 2021 (28 starts): 11-5, 2.43 ERA, 234 strikeouts, 0.94 WHIP
  • 2022 (17 starts): 7-4, 2.20 ERA, 134 strikeouts (leads the NL), 0.89 WHIP

This will be the second consecutive All-Star appearance for Burnes. In last year’s contest, Burnes was the losing pitcher of record. He pitched two innings, allowed four hits and two runs, including a home run to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Similar to Burnes, there was no doubt that Hader would be named as an All-Star this season. He is the reigning NL Reliever of the Year, an award he has won three out of the past four seasons (Devin Williams won it in 2020). Also like Burnes, Hader is arguably having a better season this year than he did in his latest award-winning campaign:

  • 2021 (60 games): 4-2, 1.23 ERA, 34 saves, 102 strikeouts, 0.84 WHIP
  • 2022 (30 games): 0-2, 1.88 ERA, 26 saves (leads all MLB), 49 strikeouts, 0.90 WHIP

This will be Hader’s fourth trip to the All-Star Game. He was named an All-Star in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
