Braves slugger listed as a potential trade piece before Opening Day

The Atlanta Braves have been busy this offseason, but don't appear done.

After landing some much-needed pieces via trades to help build out their roster, the Atlanta Braves could still upgrade a few positions like reserve outfielder and they could add more arms to the bullpen. 

Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna was listed as someone the Atlanta Braves could trade before Opening Day by Fansided writer Mark Powell. It's questionable how much value Ozuna has, given his contract ($16M for 2024) and the up-and-down nature of his 2023 campaign with the Braves. Regardless, he hit 40 home runs last season. Powell hinted at MLB.com's Mark Bowman's comments from November.

"At different points over the past couple years, the Braves tried to swap Ozuna for the likes of Patrick Corbin or Madison Bumgarner, a pair of left-handed pitchers with negative value," Bowman wrote in November. "Now, instead of swapping bad contracts, they actually could trade Ozuna to help gain something in return."

Ozuna had 145 hits, 40 home runs, hit .274 from the plate, and scored 84 runs in 2023.

How long until pitchers and catchers report?

28 days. Atlanta's expected to ask pitchers and catchers to report on Monday, February 12th, in advance of their first spring training game on February 24th against the Tampa Bay Rays. An official announcement of the reporting date will come in January.
