Braves bring veteran reliever back in wake of Nick Anderson injury

Luetge joined the Braves this offseason in a trade that sent a pair of prospects to New York. With the Yankees, he tossed 129.2 innings over 2021 and 2022 with a combined 2.71 ERA, striking out 25% of opponents while walking only 5.8%.

However, the 36-year-old hasn’t quite had the same effectiveness with Atlanta, logging just 9.2 innings and surrendering 11 runs on 15 hits and six walks. In his defense, Luetge spent more than a month on the injured list with a left bicep injury, so it’s possible that hindered his performance.

Given the Braves’ current standing in the NL East, the club has the luxury of experimenting with bullpen arms, so I’d expect Luetge to get a few more opportunities before being replaced by one of Dylan Lee or Jesse Chavez.
