Braves acquire former All-Star Robinson Canó from Padres

According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Atlanta Braves acquired infielder Robinson Canó from the San Diego Padres on Sunday night for cash considerations. 

Heyman also reports that the Braves expect to add Canó to the major league roster as soon as Monday. 

After playing only 12 games, the New York Mets designated Canó for assignment before releasing him on May 8. 

Less than a week after being released by the Mets, the Padres signed Canó to a major league deal. The Padres released Canó on June 2 before bringing him back on a minor-league contract on June 10. 

Canó struggled in 12 games with the Padres, batting .091/.118/.091 with three hits, a walk and an RBI in 34 plate appearances. 

In 21 games for San Diego's Triple-A affiliate El Paso, Canó batted .333/.375/.479 with three home runs and 20 RBI. 

An eight-time All-Star, Canó has played for the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, Mets and Padres. 

Over his 17-year career, Canó is a five-time Silver Slugger with two Gold Glove Awards and a World Series championship, won in 2009 with the Yankees.

In 2,258 career MLB games, Canó has 335 home runs and 1,306 RBI, batting .301/.351/.489.
