Angels stars both homer for MLB-leading fifth time this season

When Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout homer in the same game this season, the Los Angeles Angels are undefeated. That held true Wednesday when the two combined for three of the five longballs for the Halos in a 12-5 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The Angels are now 5-0 in games when their two All Stars go deep together. That's the most of any duo in baseball this year, and it's the 27th time they've done so in their respective careers. The Angels are 19-8 when that happens.

Two deep balls weren't enough Wednesday, though, as Ohtani hit a pair of two-run shots of his own, including this bomb to center in the top of the third inning.

Shohei clearly wasn't happy with that 425-footer, because the very next inning he hit his longest of the season, this 459-foot shot to right center.

That gives him 15 home runs on the year, good for sixth in MLB and second in the American League, behind only Aaron Judge's 18.

But Shohei's three-time MVP teammate refused to be outdone. Trout hit this absolute monster shot in the first, his 12th of the season, measuring an outrageous 476 feet.

Taylor Ward also hit a two-run homer for the Angels. And when Ohtani stepped aside for a pinch hitter in the ninth inning, the man who took his place, Chad Wallach, hit one as well. It was the first time this season Los Angeles went deep five times in a game.

The Angels currently sit at 30-27 on the season. They begin an important four-game series against the reigning World Series champion Astros in Houston on Thursday.
