Wyndham Clark fires subtle shot at Masters leader Bryson DeChambeau: ‘In LIV Golf they only play 54’
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

When Wyndham Clark made the turn at Amen Corner at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday, he was 3-under par and sat in the top-5 on the leaderboard in the 2024 Masters Tournament.

Clark, making his first career Masters start, was making it look easy at Augusta National. Clark, however, would soon unravel. He bogeyed No. 11, double bogeyed the Par-5 15th and ended his round with a bogey on No. 18. He finished his round 1-over par, T37.

Though Clark has plenty of work to do to get back near the top of the leaderboard, he likes his chances given who’s sitting atop the leaderboard after Round 1. Speaking after his round, Clark took a shot at Bryson Dechambeau, who paced the field with a 7-under par showing on Thursday.

“Yeah, we’ve got 54 holes,” Clark said, via Golf Digest. “In LIV Golf, they only play 54, so I like my chances. We’ve got a lot of golf left. As you can see, someone shot 7-under. I could do that tomorrow.”

Wyndham Clark has ground to make up in 2024 Masters Tournament at Augusta National

In case you weren’t aware that LIV Golf plays 54 holes as opposed to 72 on the PGA Tour, you certainly are now. And for that, thank you, Wyndham.

All jokes aside, Clark does, in fact, have 54 holes left to decide his fate at Augusta National. The 2023 U.S. Open winner said the key is playing the Par-5s better, of which there are four at Augusta National.

“If I played the par-5s a little better, and maybe make one or two putts, we’d be having a different interview right now,” Clark said, via The Augusta Chronicle. “I felt like I played great. My game feels good. Just got to make some putts and tighten it up on the par-5s.”

Clark is once again paired up with Viktor Hovland and Cameron Smith on Friday. The threesome will tee off at 2 p.m. ET.
