Watch: Matthieu Pavon makes hole-in-one at U.S. Open

It didn't take Matthieu Pavon long to figure out the Los Angeles Country Club's North Course. On the 15th hole, Pavon recorded the first hole-in-one at this year's U.S. Open.

On the attempt, he placed the ball past the tee, and it slowly rolled back toward the hole and in for an ace.

Prior to the tournament, a major storyline was the unfamiliarity of the LACC for many golfers leading up to the U.S. Open. Midway through the day with half the field having teed off, scores are low, a sign that players are adapting well to their environment.

Through 15 holes, Rickie Fowler leads the tournament at 7-under-par and Xander Schauffele was two strokes behind him. Scottie Scheffler was at 3-under-par through 15, and a trio of golfers (Bryson DeChambeau, Gary Woodland, Max Homa) were at 2-under near the end of their rounds.

But it was Pavon who had the shot of the first round — with all due respect to Michael Brennan — by producing a rare moment in U.S. Open history.

Per the USGA, it's the 49th hole-in-one in the history of the tournament.

Per PGATour.com, Pavon, a European Tour pro, qualified for the U.S. Open for the first time in four years after an 8-under-par performance at European's Final Qualifying site.

He finished the round at 1-over-par but has already done something most (if not all) other golfers won't do this weekend.
