U.S. Open updated odds: Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele make history to leap up odds board

What a start to the 2023 U.S. Open for Rickie Fowler.

The 34-year-old lit up Los Angeles Country Club with 10 birdies and a sizzling 8-under 62 Thursday morning to take the first-round lead. His incredible round marked the lowest in U.S. Open history and tied the record for the lowest in major championship history. Branden Grace (2017 Open Championship) is the only other male golfer to shoot 62 in a major.

Well, at least he was.

Just 20 minutes after Fowler polished off his historic first round, Xander Schauffele parred his final hole to match Fowler's 62. That's right. Heading into today, only one player shot 62 in more than 100 years of major championship golf. Two players accomplished the feat within a half hour at LACC Thursday.

Yeah, I think we're in for a thriller of a tournament this week.
