It's still a bit puzzling why Jon Rahm didn't move up in the official world golf ranking following his win at the Sentry Tournament of Champions earlier this month. But the world-ranked No. 4 has a chance to climb the ranks again this coming weekend at the 2023 installment of The American Express -- and is favored to do so.
Rahm is listed as the favorite to win the event according to major sportsbooks across the country and is a shoo-in to end the event in the top 10. DraftKings has the Spaniard listed as the +650 favorite, with world No. 2 Scottie Scheffler and No. 5 Patrick Cantlay listed just below him at +1100.
The American Express Opening Odds:
— Rick Gehman (@RickRunGood) January 16, 2023
+700: Rahm
+1100: Scheffler, Cantlay
+1200: Finau
+1600: X
+2200: Zaltoris, Tom Kim, Sungjae
+2500: Burns, Young
+3500: Montgomery, Si Woo, Harman, Wise
+4500: Hoge
+5000: Cam Davis
+5500: Sahith, JDay
+6000: Wyndham, Pendrith, KH
+6500: Hadwin
In addition to winning his second event of the season, Rahm has his sights set on moving up the ranking -- especially with the world No. 3 no longer competing for points. Cam Smith is still in that third spot despite defecting to LIV Golf and no longer being eligible for world ranking points. Scheffler, who has yet to win an event this season, still sits in second place behind Rory McIlroy.
The American Express tees off this Thursday from the PGA West course in La Quinta, California.
