PGA 2022: The Memorial betting preview

With the Memorial this week we are seeing a return of Jon Rahm to the top of the odds table. Rahm won the Mexico Open a couple of starts ago but struggled at the Masters and the PGA Championship.

This is a pretty good field with Cameron Smith and Collin Morikawa, two others in the top five in the world rankings. Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas, who round out the Top 10, are taking a break this week so those top five and top 10 bets might be a little easier to cash.

Rahm won the event back in 2020, sandwiched between two wins by Patrick Cantlay, who is also in the field this week. There might not be a sleeper this week, but it looks like there is lots of competition at the top.

Most people consider this course a real challenge so don't look for shockingly low scores this week.

Bets to Consider

Patrick Cantlay to Finish Top 5 (+320)

In addition to his two wins on this course, Cantlay also has a second-place finish, so nobody can claim more mastery of the course than him. He also has four top five finishes in 2022 already. Great payoff considering the history here.

Patrick Reed to Finish Top 10 (+480)

Reed is not always the most consistent player out there but he was 7th last week and has never missed a cut at the Memorial. He grabbed a top five finish last year and seems in good enough form to do it again this week.

Cam Smith Top Australian (+200)

This one is kind of fun and has a better payoff than I would have expected, which is why I put it in there. For years there have been very good Aussies on the Tour, but Smith is the best of the lot right now. You don't even need him to win the thing, just be better than the likes of Adam Scott, Marc Leishman, and Jason Day. None of those players are even in the top odds list above.

Cam Young 35-1

Young is looking like a great value this week. Since missing the cut at the Masters he has finished tied for 3rd, 2nd, and 3rd again in his last three events. He is still looking for his first win on the PGA Tour and knocking really hard at the door.

Davis Riley to Finish Top 10 (+400)

The rookie is showing a lot of consistency to start his career on the Tour. He has finished in the top 10 in three of his last four events and has another top 10 at the Valspar (second). That is a pretty good payoff for something he has done a lot so far this season.
