LIV Golfer Joaquin Niemann receives special invitation for 2024 Masters tournament
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

As the 2024 golf season continues to roll on, there has been a massive development regarding the Masters tournament. The event organizers have now sent a special invitation to LIV Golfer Joaquin Niemann .

Every year, the organizers of the event at Augusta National sent out special invitees to top golfers around the world who have failed to qualify for the tournament. This year, they have invited Niemann along with Thorbjorn Oleson and Ryo Hisatsune.

The Torques GC captain stole the show during the first round of LIV Golf Mayakoba. He fired a score of 59 to take the lead in the tournament. This helped Niemann claim the win and grab the first title of the 2024 LIV Golf season.

While he was pleased with his performance and victory, he would express his desire to play and win the majors. “I want to win the majors but I gotta get in first,” the Chilean golfer said when asked about his goals for the year.

Despite his triumph at this event, his OWGR rankings took another hit as LIV Golf does not receive ranking points. This led to PGA Tour professional Michael Kim to troll him for this. However, Niemann now seems to have had the last laugh on him following this development.

Joaquin Niemann heading to Augusta National in April

The Masters tournament is considered the biggest event of the golfing calendar. Taking place at the iconic Augusta National, this event sees several top players battling it out for the coveted green jacket.

Joaquin Niemann had previously claimed he wanted to play in the majors. His wish seems to have come true now. The 25-year-old golfer will now be one of the 13 representatives of the Saudi-funded tour along with defending champion Jon Rahm to appear at the Augusta National later in April.

In a statement regarding this, Masters chairman Fred Ridley said:

The Masters Tournament has a long-standing tradition of inviting leading international players who are not otherwise qualified. Today’s announcement represents the Tournament’s continued commitment towards developing interest in the game of golf across the world. Niemann would later thank the organizers for this opportunity and took to his Instagram stories to express his pleasure.

This will be Niemann’s fifth appearance at the Masters tournament. Last season he finished T16 along with 2021 winner Hideki Matsuyama, S.J Im, Shane Lowry , Justin Rose , Sam Bennett and Tom Kim.

Before that though, he will lead his team to three LIV Golf events starting off with LIV Golf Jeddah in first week of March. He and his LIV Golf colleagues will compete in LIV Golf Miami before eventually heading to the 88th Masters tournament starting on April 11.
