Joaquin Niemann takes JAB at OWGR after 2nd LIV Golf win
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

LIV Golf’s Joaquin Niemann continues to be one of the most talked about stars in golf right now. The Chilean golfer once again showed his impressive gameplay with a stunning victory in Jeddah to claim his 2nd LIV Golf title of the season. After this he once again would speak about the Official Golf World Rankings (OWGR).

The OWGR has been the main issue for the Public Investment Fund (PIF) backed tour. Following his victory in Mayakoba in February, Niemann spoke about how he wanted to play in the majors and took an issue with the rankings. This time, he took a jab at them.

Following his win, he was asked about his thoughts on being one of the favorites to take home a major this year. The 25-year-old seemingly took this chance to launch another attack at the OWGR and claimed, “How is that possible if I’m like 100 in the world“.

The problem of not receiving points continues to haunt Niemann and other LIV Golfers. Prior to the start of the LIV Golf Jeddah, Niemann was ranked 72nd in the OWGR. Despite his win in Middle East, his ranking fell down again and he is now currently ranked at 76th.

Joaquin Niemann reveals receiving special invitation from PGA Championship

After Joaquin Niemann expressed his wish to play in the majors this year, he was given a special invitation from the Masters to appear at the Augusta National. The golfer now has three majors to look forward to this year as he revealed on Sunday that he has received a special invitation from the PGA Championship as well.

The PGA Championship invites the top 100 players in the OWGR to compete at Oak Hill. Though Niemann could automatically qualify with his current rank, there is a danger of him slipping out of the top 100 rankings in coming weeks and miss out from the event.

Niemann spoke about this with golfwrx.com which was later confirmed by Sports Illustrated and Golf Channel. In his statement he said, “Yeah, I got an invite for the PGA Championship as well. So I’m in that one.”

Apart from this two, Niemann will participate in the Open Championship as well. This is due to his victory at the Australian Open in December 2023 which automatically sealed his place in the final major of this year. Will he get the chance to appear at the U.S. Open and make it into all four majors this year remains to be seen as he expresses his commitment to try and qualify for the event in June.
